Earner and Muldoon make it a Galway Poc Fada double

ON A good weekend for Galway Camogie, the maroon was much in evidence in the Annaverna Mountains yesterday with victory on the double in the M Donnelly GAA Poc Fada Finals.

Former All-Star goalkeeper Susan Earner returned to retain her Senior title, with a fine display of pure striking, while Maeve Muldoon dealt with the challenges of the terrain very impressively in bagging U16 honours.

It is a feature of this famed competition that goalies have tended to do well in all the categories since its inception in 1960, and renewal in 1981 after a hiatus between 1970 and 1980.

Earner is part of that fine tradition, a fantastic netminder who was part of the Galway team that won the All-Ireland in 2013.

She showed that she had lost none of the length of her deliveries when setting a new course record for the second year in a row, her score of 24 pucks and 12m proving too much for the opposition, who included Fiona Connell (Roscommon), Emily Mangan (Meath), Tarcy McNally (Carlow), Brianna O’Regan (Waterford) and the runner-up, Louise Dougan (Derry).

Muldoon is not a member of the goalkeeping fraternity however, but is rather a talented forward who is already making her presence felt at Senior level for Killimor.

Muldoon saw off the challenges of Lisa O’Riordan (Cork), Jane Lowry (Offaly) and Emma Donnelly (Tyrone).
