Ballygarvan 2-5 Inniscarra 0-3
Ballygarvan had eight points to spare as they took the Evening Echo junior Shield title with a victory over Inniscarra played in Cloughduv recently.
Rosanne Byrne and Sara Quilligan had points on the score board as Ballygarvan set the foundations for victory early in the first half, the excellent condition of the pitch made it easy on two committed sides and both gave it everything they had in quest of the title.
Emily O Donovan pointed for Inniscarra as Michelle Dunne stretched the Ballygarvan led adding their third point, Ballygarvan kept the pressure on the Inniscarra defence al through the half as they worked hard to maintain their lead. Keeping their foot on the pedal Ballygarvan stretched their advantage further with an Aisling Byrne points after good work from Kate O’Sullivan and now in control they added a goal before the break as Michelle Dunne doubled on a ball sent in by Sara Quilligan and it was 1-4 to 0-1 in favour of Ballygarvan at the interval.
Ballygarvan maintained their momentum from the restart and putting a lot of pressure on the Inniscarra defence they went seven points clear as Sara Quilligan pointed. Inniscarra responded as Liz Buckley pointed twice from a free and a forty five after a good save from Ballygarvan keeper Katie O’ Donovan. Inniscarra applied a lot of pressure but the Ballygarvan defence held firm with Captain Laura O’ Callaghan, Barbara Browne and Ann Keohane prominent.
With ten minutes remaining Michelle Dunne struck for her second goal to consolidate Ballygarvan’s lead, to their credit Inniscarra gave it every thing they had but they could find no way back as Ballygarvan ran out winners to take the junior shield title for the first time.

Castlelyons 3-4 Glen Rovers 2-5
Castlelyons just about hung on to take the Junior Plate title in close hard fought contest with Glen Rovers in Castlelyons. The home side made a great start and led
At the break 3-3 to 1-2 but they had to dig deep to hold on to the finish as the Glen threw everything they had at them. Marie Therse Murphy hit an early Castlelyons point and they had two goal on the board inside fifteen minutes Trish Carroll and Emily Sexton were on target to give them a seven point lead before Amy Murphy hit a Glen point. A goal from Trish Kenneally had the Glen back in the game but Trish Carroll replied to restore Castleyons six point advantage. Before the break
Shauna Busteed hit a Glen point but with Isabel Fenton and Trish Carroll pointing Castleyons led 3-3 to 1-2 at the break.
The Glen girls made all the second half running and inside seven minutes of the restart they grabbed a goal from Stephanie Callanan and with their defence now much tighter Castleyons could find no way through while at the other end the pace of young substitute Lauren Callanan and Shauna Busteed was causing problems for the Castleyons defence. A Lauren Callanan point had just three between the sides but Emily Sexton gave Castlelyons breathing space with a point to bring the gap to four. Again the Glen responded and two points on the trot from Lauren and Stephanie Callanan had just two points in it with five minutes remaining. Now both sides were at their best as they piled on the pressure and again the defences were excellent blotting out scoring chances at either end. Castleyons breathed a sigh of relief with a minute on the stop watch as Lauren Callahan’s shot for goal skimmed the post and went wide as Castlelyons just hung on to be crowned champions after an excellent contest.

Douglas 2-7 Enniskeane 1-9
Enniskeane settled quickly with a point from Sinead Hennessey inside three minutes of the start of this Evening Echo Minor C final and with both defences coming under pressure it was level insides eighteen minutes at three points each Louise Duggan Orla Cronin adding to the Enniskeane tally as Douglas kept in touch thanks to three Claire Shine points and one from Clodagh Duggan
With the sides evenly matched Douglas hit the front with Rebecca Casey grabbing a vital goal two minutes before the half time whistle after a great save from Kate Mc Carthy rebounded and was flicked to the net. Enniskeane replied with Louise Duggan pointing before the break to leave Douglas 1-4 to 0-4 ahead at the interval.
Enniskeane made a great start to the second half and inside twelve minutes were back in the game thanks to Caroline O’ Donovan and Orla Curtin. Now piling on the pressure Enniskeane hit the front Caroline O’Donovan pointing from play before Orla Cronin pointed a long range free to put them further ahead.
Douglas applied huge pressure but the Enniskeane defence absorbed it as Douglas battle for a score, with nine minutes to the full time whistle Douglas had a goal from Captain Laura Nason. Enniskeane battled on with Caroline O’ Donovan Louise Duggan and Orla Curtin promotes as they strove to hold on but Douglas with points from Lauryn Jackson and Ciara Hickey ensured the title was secured by the narrowest of margins.

Douglas did all the work in the opening half of this Evening Echo Minor “”A”” championship final in Castle Road. Katriona Mackey was the star of the show for Douglas striking all but one of her side’s points. A goal inside five minutes of the throw in set the foundations for a Douglas victory and with Clara Kavanagh joining Katriona Mackey on the score sheet Douglas led 1-9 to 0-3 at the interval. Through the opening half Ballincollig worked hard Sarah Buckley Samantha Coomey and Patricia Buttimer keeping them in touch.
Ballincollig upped the pace in the second half and with Sarah Buckley, Samantha Coomey and Patricia Buttimer striking points they were back in the game. Douglas now found the going tough as the Ballincollig girls closed down every attack; Katriona Mackey struck their only score of the second half with a point in the fifty ninth minute. Ballincollig battled hard to get the goal they needed but the Douglas defence stood firm under enormous pressure to retain their title with five points to spare at the full time whistle.
