Moira Cahill Camogie Blitz
Knockavilla Donaskeigh Camogie club will hold its fourth annual Moira Cahill Camogie Blitz on Saturday the 22nd August. Anyone who has attended the blitz in the previous three years can vouch for us when we say this is an event not to be missed. Camogie in the parish of Knockavilla Donaskeigh is going strong. This year the club has succeeded in promoting camogie throughout the parish by establishing U8 and U 10 camogie teams.
The U10s have already competed in their first blitz hosted by our own club. Similarly the U8s have played their first match in recent times and we hope to play some more matches in the near future. The U12s have been outstanding this season and have, as testament to their commitment, reached a county semi final. The U14s have also taken part in a number of different competitions including the U14 Summer League. The Juniors have had a good season despite missing players due to exam commitments reaching the county semi final in the League and progressing well in the Championship.
The interest in the blitz this year has been phenomenal with each of the competitions being filled to capacity. Up to 18 different clubs will compete in the blitz totalling to over 30 teams ranging from under 10 to junior being present on the day. It is estimated that over 600 girls will grace the fields & play Camogie in one day in Dundrum. The blitz will begin at approximately
As all the teams will be decked out in their club colours and sporting flags this will be a colourful beginning to an action packed day. After the teams arrive at the field,
The winners of all competitions will receive plaques as a reminder of their achievement with the runners up receiving medals. All competitors in the U10 competition will receive medals for participating in the blitz. As the blitz will be an all day event, tea, coffee and sandwiches will be available in the clubrooms for a small charge. All proceeds from these donations will be donated to South Tipp Hospice.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the day will be the final of the Junior competition after which the victorious team will be presented with Moira Cahill Perpetual trophy by the Cahill family. Moira was secretary of the club for many years and her legacy will remain with the camogie club for years to come. After falling at the final hurdle the last two years, the local girls will surely be determined to keep this trophy, which means so much to them, in the village.
So if you are looking for something to do on the Saturday 22nd August, come along to the GAA field in Dundrum for what in previous years has proven to be a day filled with matches of an extremely high calibre with plenty of tense moments and exciting finishes. Come and show your support for camogie on what is guaranteed to be a momentous day in the history of the camogie club in the parish of Knockavilla Donaskeigh.
