Senior Championship
Trim 4- 9 Navan o’Mahonys 1-7
After Meath’s win against Antrim last weekend, it was back to business at Senior, Intermediate & Junior Level of the Meath Camogie Championships as Trim overshadowed Navan O’Mahonys with a comprehensive Senior Championship win.
Trim who have failed to lift the Fay & O’Regan Senior Camogie Championship Cup for a number of years now are keeping their sights on the Senior Final date in September.
Trim with a strong panel of players are not relying on their County players to pull them through as Alma Walsh, Niamh Guy & Dearbhla O’Carroll/Clarke are showing their worth on the Trim team with impressive performances . Navan O’Mahonys did at stages give Trim a run for their money, but they failed to go the full distance when they had the chances.

Dunboyne 4-6 Killyon 2-9
Dunboyne take the senior points in the final minutes as Suzanne Ledwitch flicks the ball past Killyon goalie Michelle Connolly for the winner. Dunboyne had impressive performance from Sinead Hackett & Aoife Thompson during the game where Killyon’s Sharon Raleigh played well up front she was assisted by Sinead Geraghty.
Christine Raleigh was on hand to put over from frees. Browyn Massey and Laura Maguire defended well for Killyon. This game could have gone either way with only a point or two between the sides at most stages during the game.

Intermediate Championship
Donaghmore/Ashbourne 4-3 Kiltale 3-11
The game began a very one sided affair. Kiltale scored an unanswered 2-1 within the first ten minutes. The Don/Ash ladies were never going to accept a beating and stubbornly began to fight back. Lizzy Lynch was tireless at mid-field giving countless balls into the Don/Ash half forward line. The next 20 minutes were dominated by Donaghmore/Ashbourne attacks on goal.
The first score came from Amy McAtamey, minutes later Ali Fitzgerald doubled on a ball which came in from the wing, this second gaol brought the Donaghmore/Ashbourne girls back into contention while also giving them a much needed confidence boost.
The third goal came after a great team effort right the way down from the defence when Liz Keagan passed the ball to Lizzy who opened up the forwards by hand passing the ball to Claire Corcoran in the wings who then hit the ball into Ali Fitzgerald and the ball inevitably ended up in the back of the net. Fitzgerald who seemed unstoppable on the night got a hat-trick just before the closing minutes of the first half.
Kiltale came back at half time knowing that they had a fight on their hands and they upped the tempo for the final 30 minutes. Debra wigglesworth caused major problems for Donaghmore/ Ashbourne. However Liz Keegan worked hard in the centre back position and managed to limit the damage that she could have done.
Darina Burnell and Emer Keavney also swept up in the half back line and Kiltale rarely managed to brake through the defence in the second half. This did not seem to hinder Kiltale as Wigglesworth managed to score accurately from the mid-way line and they made their way back into contention by relying on this.
Donaghmore/Ashbourne continued to fight hard and were unlucky on the day to have lost out on two vital championship points. In the second half they had nine wides, two attempts on goal were the ball got stuck in the sand right on the goal- mouth and an unlucky shot that hit off the goal keeper and went wide. Lizzy Lynch managed two points from frees and in the dying minutes Sinead Baxter scored a cracking point from play.

Drumree Camogie Club claim their second trophy this year after defeating Killyon in the U14 Camogie Shield Final. Killyon battle all through this game, never given up with strong performance from Kelsea Hynes, Grace Coleman, Emma Darby Shannon Darby and Cara Foley, But it was to be Drumree’s day as Emma Kennedy & aine Brennan played well for Drumree.

Next weekend 4th July 2009 Meath will play Laois in the the Gala All Ireland Camogie Championship in O’Moore Park Portlaoise at 5pm. This game is an opening game to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Qualifier of Laois v Antrim at 7:00pm, Portlaoise.
