There will, as always, be much talent on display throughout, with experienced and exciting players participating. Dublin players Joeleen Hoary and Sarah Ryan, their captain, who both won Purcell All-Star awards last year, represent DIT.
Meanwhile, Queens can boast to have SinÚad Cassidy and Edelle Henry of Derry, former All-Ireland Junior medal winners, and Antrim’s Theresa Adams, a senior club winner with O’Donovan Rossa’s, among their ranks.
The hosts, Mary I are represented by two All-Ireland winning Junior members of the Clare team, Kate Lynch and Carina Roseingrave, who was also selected for young player of the year in 2008. Cork girls, Orna Neville (captain) and Eimear Harrington have also represented their county at intermediate and minor level respectively and are key members of the college team.
Athlone IT are represented by three Offaly girls who reached the All-Ireland Junior final last year, Arlene Watkins, Siobhßn Flannery and Fiona Stephens, while Sarah Noone was part of the Galway team that played in the All-Ireland senior final that day.
IT Tralee are not short of talent either with Edwina Keane, a nominee for young player of the year 2008, Danielle Sheehy, a member of the All-Ireland junior winning Clare team and Elaine Hough of the Tipperary intermediate team.
With so many good players on view and many more that could make their mark at the weekend, it is bound to be a great Purcell competition.
