A Halloween Camp took place for U14 girls in the Burt Camogie Club, Donegal. 

The action packed camp took place in Burt GAA grounds on the 31st of October. 

The Camogie camp provided girls with taster sessions of the different elements of training including fundamentals, physical training, skills, mini-games and fun games.

 

Donegal County Board AGM is scheduled to take place on Monday November 12th at 8.00pm in Arena 7, Letterkenny.

On Wednesday October 31st Camogie came to Portarlington.

In a strong gaelic football area Laois Camogie held it’s first “Come and Try It Day”.

As this was an introduction to Camogie, drills and games were held indoors for girls aged between 6 and 12years.

We had a great response from both parents and the girls that took part.  Laois Camogie and the Regional Development co-ordinator have agreed to develop the camogie programme in the local primary schools so they can take part in Cuman na mbunscoil after Christmas. We would like to thank Portarlinton GAA for the use of the facilities and a special thank you to the camogie coaches on the day.

 

Fingallians Camogie Club successfully completed their recent Mum & Me programme which saw 25 eager parents turn up for weekly Camogie coaching. The programme was tutored by Fingallians GPO Simon Lambert. A big thanks to all involved who made this programme a success. 

 

Games for Developing Fundamental Camogie skills workshop took place on Monday October 22nd in Good Counsel GAA. Over 15 mentors attended this workshop and left with numerous ideas and inspiration. Thanks to Dublin GPO Mark McManus for tutoring the workshop and to Good Counsel GAA for the use of their facilities.

 

 

Dublin City University (DCU) Sport agus Spraoi day was held on Thursday October 25th. This event was open to all 4th, 5th & 6th year second level students. 125 girls took to the playing field for Camogie skill stations and blitzes and after this the girls received a careers talk and tour of the college by a DCU student ambassadors.

The highlight of the day for the students was meeting the President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor, Donegal All Ireland winning captain Michael Murphy and Dublin football All Star Paul Flynn. This event was a partnership between the Local Secondary Schools, Fingal County Council Sports Partnership, The Camogie Association, The Irish Sports Council and DCU. Thanks to the DCU Camogie committee for organising this great day, to our guests for taking time out to attend this Camogie event and to Fingal County Council Sports Partnership, The Camogie Association, The Irish Sports Council and Dublin City University for their continued support.

 

Dublin Second Level Schools Committee along with the Regional Development Camogie Co-ordinator are organising a Come & Try It blitz days on November 7th in Ballinteer St Johns GAA and November 14th in St Brigids GAA for 1st and 2nd year students. The overall aim of the Camogie blitzes is to provide students with the opportunity to try Camogie as a sport and hopefully it will be the start of new beginnings for participating schools in terms of Camogie representation for future competitions. These blitz days are primarily aimed at schools not involved in any Camogie competitions.

 

Nurney Camogie club recently completed their Mum and Me programme. 16 parents turned up for 6 weeks of Camogie coaching tutored by club coach Cathy Ryan. The weather didn’t dampen their spirits over the few weeks as the sessions were full of fun and laughter. Well done to all involved and on accomplishing this programme.

 

Wall Ball Workshop took place on Wednesday October 24th in Naas GAA. 15 mentors attended this workshop which was tutored by Dublin GPO Tom O Mahony. Thanks to Naas GAA for the use of their facilities and to their minor Camogie team for demonstrating the drills and games.

Tipperary Player Performance and Lifestyle Academy:

52 girls from clubs in North and Mid Tipperary took part in the Tipperary Player Performance and Lifestyle Academy on Fri Oct 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th in the excellent Templederry GAA grounds.

Over the 3 day programme, participants received expert camogie coaching, played matches & games; took part in a fitness modules and also received information on best practice in relation to diet and nutrition for their age-group.

Sincere thanks to Damien Young, Julie Kirwan, Matthew McGrath and Noelle Kennedy for their excellent coaching and to Tipperary Development Officer Pat Sheridan for all his work in relation to organising the weekend.

 

 Cork Green Card and Foundation Referee Course:

35 young participants completed the Green Card Referee Course in Ballincollig on Tuesday October 30th. All participants took part enthusiastically and will referee for their clubs in 2013. They each received whistles, cards and referees’ notebooks and once they receive confirmation that they passed the green card assessment they will receive t-shirts designed by Cork Camogie Board to use when refereeing GO GAMES and underage matches up to U14 level.

On the following day, national referee tutor Cathal Egan delivered the Foundation Level Referee Course to 29 participants. Sincere thanks to Cathal for all his work on this and also to Cork Camogie Development Officer Mairead Donovan for organising both courses and looking after venue and catering on both days. 

Thanks also to Ballincollig GAA & Camogie Clubs for the use of their fantastic facilities.

 

 

Clare Player Performance and Lifestyle Academy was held in Doora-Barefield GAA club. 30 participants took part in the two day camp. The academy contained various elements including fitness, diet, nutrition and match play. A sincere thanks to Doora–Barefield GAA club for the use of their facilities, club coach Ann McMahon and to the Clare county board for all their help. 

 

 

Tulsk Camogie club will be starting their Mum and Me winter programme next Monday November 5th 6.30pm-7.30pm and will continue for the next couple of weeks. Roscommon county development officer & inter-county player Annette McGeeney is tutoring this programme.
