Health and education initiative for parents and daughters
The Camogie Association and the National Dairy Council have joined forces for the first national “Hurl with Me” event which is taking place on June 6th in Commercials GAA Club, Dublin.
The development initiative encourages parents and their daughters to take up the skills of camogie, and train and play together. It runs for six weeks in selected clubs nationwide with one hour coaching sessions helping parents and daughters to learn the game.
This is the first time a national “Hurl with Me” day will take place and the National Dairy Council have been confirmed as the official sponsor for “Hurl with Me” 2015.
Twenty-four club teams, involving over 500 young girls aged 7-10 years and their parents will gather on June 6th for an action-packed day of skills sessions and games.
Speaking about the announcement President of the Camogie Association Catherine Neary said:
“Health and education are two of the core elements of the “Hurl with Me” initiative and we are delighted that the National Dairy Council has come on board to support such a key development programme.
Adopting a healthy active lifestyle is very important and the “Hurl with Me” programme delivers on this and gets parents and children involved in a healthy and fun activity.
The overall aim of “Hurl with Me” is that by parents and their daughters learning the skills of camogie and playing the game, it will facilitate the long-term involvement of parents in the club and girls in the game of camogie.”
Speaking about the announcement Caroline O’Donovan, Nutritionist with the National Dairy Council said:
“The National Dairy Council aims to promote the natural goodness of dairy products as part of a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. We are delighted to be involved with “Hurl with Me” which compliments these ideals by encouraging both children and adults alike to participate in physical exercise in a fun environment.”
The participating clubs in the 2015 “Hurl with Me” National Day are as follows:
-Connacht: Na Brideoga (Mayo), St.Dominic’s (Roscommon), Ballinasloe (Galway), Athenry (Galway)
-Ulster: Eoghan Rua (Derry), St.Brigid’s (Armagh), Omagh (Tyrone), Kilcoo (Down), Portaferry (Down)
-Munster: Cappamore (Limerick), Clooney-Quin (Clare), Erin’s Own (Cork), Cappoquin (Waterford), Charleville (Cork), Silvermines (Tipperary)
-Leinster: Commercials (Dublin), Rathcoffey (Kildare), Rathgarogue (Wexford), Harps (Laois), Emeralds (Kilkenny), Whitehall Colmcilles (Dublin), Delvin (Westmeath), Kiltale (Meath), St.Cillian’s (Offaly).
