National Hurl with Me Day – A Roaring Success!
The GAA National Games Development Centre was the venue on Sunday last, June 25th, for the National Hurl with Me Day. The Hurl with Me programme, in conjunction with the National Dairy Council, has been rolled out in 24 clubs across the country over the past 4 weeks. This national day was a chance for both children and parents to showcase all the new skills they have learned. From early morning, participants began arriving with almost 1000 parents and daughters taking to the field over the course of the day. The National Dairy Council nutritionist, Caroline O’Donovan, also gave a talk on sports nutrition for parents on the day.

Talking Camogie
An Initiative launched by Ard Comahirle this week called ‘Talking Camogie’ aims to listen to the members views on some new ideas about:
- age eligibility for adult club and inter county Camogie
- and the structure of the All-Ireland minor championship.
The initiative also includes an opportunity to discuss how you would like to change the playing rules of Camogie. All members of the Association are asked to get involved at the various locations around the country.
U16 “Progress to Success” All Ireland Competition 2017
The first blitz day of the progress to success competition for 2017 was on Sunday June 25th. Teams involved where Mayo, Wicklow, Monaghan, Donegal and Louth. This was a great day of camogie in Longford Slashers club. All teams competed extremely well with Mayo taken an early lead on the score board.
During the Lunch break the New Camogie player welfare officer Paul O’Donovan took the girls and mentors for a Foam rolling session, proving them with some knowledge on how to roll out their tired legs after their long bus journeys and activating their muscles, the girls really enjoyed this aspect of the competition.

Club-School Link Club Profiles
St. Patrick's Cullyhanna Camogie club in association with St Patricks school
Sunníamha visited the school to coach camogie to P4,5,6&7. Coaching was for 3 days a week for 6 weeks. The club and children have benefited greatly from Sunníamha's sessions, with new and old players turning up to club training. The children's skills and abilities grew from strength to strength each week and so did the children's relationships with one another. Their love for camogie has grown considerably and in turn developed each child's basic fundamental skills. This Friday sees the coaching program coming to an end with a blitz in the GAA club for all 48 children who took part each week.

Clonkill Camogie Club in association with Scoil Mhuire Loughegar
Newly appointed school principal, Niall Brennan, was immediately on board with the idea, agreeing that Barry Nea (our u10 trainer and a referee) would be the ideal coach to work with the girls and I would assist him. We knew that the whole scheme would be the perfect way to improve current players’ skills, persuade “resting” players to return to the game and encourage those who hadn’t much interest in camogie to pick up a hurl. With 17 girls participating from 3rd class and then a cross section of around 14 girls from 4th, 5th and 6th we embarked on a programme that covered everything from jab and roll lifting to soloing, hooking and tackling.
We were delighted to see our efforts pay dividends when the school made it to the final of this year’s Cumann na mBunscol camogie final and although the girls finished as runners up this year, we feel very confident that with continued training and hard work we will be even more successful next year. Our blitz is scheduled for next week as a perfect, fun way to finish off the year. The girls thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, the Camogie Club were delighted when two of the girls registered having stopped playing a couple of years ago and the connection between the school and the club has gone from strength to strength and will undoubtedly continue to do so in years to come, brilliant programme for the school and the club.

Schools Coaching Programme Westport
A national school coaching programme took place in Westport over the past 8 weeks. The programme started with 12 transition year students completing the Camogie foundation Get a Grip coaching course. The students then assisted lead coaches Declan Gallagher and Roseleen Duggan coaching in the local primary schools. 8 schools in the area received coaching over the course of 7 weeks.
The end of term blitz took place in Westport GAA Club on Wednesday June 21st. Over 180 girls took part in the blitz including some of the girls who recently won their Feile Competition on the weekend previously. Congrats to all the schools, players, students and coaches who took part in this programme.

Leinster Poc Fada
The annual u16 and Senior Leinster Poc Fada took place last weekend in Beann Eadair in Co. Dublin. The senior title was defended by last year’s recipient Faye McCarthy from Dublin, while the u16 honours went to the Royal County’s Abbye Donnelly. Both received their trophy and prizes from Leinster Council Chairman Pat Martin and secretary Sarah Conroy. Congratulations to all who participated on the day.

North Armagh Summer Camp
This is the second year of the hurling & camogie summer camp in North Armagh. This year the legends of the game will be coaching at the camp, Jennifer Curry (O'Leary) and Eoin Kelly. The camp finishes off on Friday evening with a BBQ and a massive water fight. This is sure to be a great camp for all girls so register early!
