Camogie goes pink for breast cancer awareness

Over 400 camogie players will be going æPink’ crazy for the Marie Keating Foundation as they aim to raise €10,000 for the cancer awareness organisation by competing in a two day camogie blitz at Thomas Davis GAA & Camogie Club this weekend.

æPink Day’ throws in on Saturday, July 24th as twelve teams from the Leinster region battle it out for the honour of æPink Day’ champions with the winning team receiving a team performance building day at the exclusive Avon Ri resort in Blessington, Co Wicklow.

The brainchild of Camogie Association Regional Development Officer, Eve Talbot and with the assistance of Leinster Camogie Council and Dublin’s  Thomas Davis GAA & Camogie Club, it is hoped that æPink Day’ will kick start a campaign to increase the retention of girls aged 14-16 years in camogie while also raising awareness of breast cancer.

In addition to the camogie action the Marie Keating Foundation mobile unit will attend at the Thomas Davis club on Saturday afternoon while a mammoth bucket collection is also taking place over the weekend.

Speaking about æPink Day’ Camogie Association President Joan O’Flynn: “”An event like this is fantastic. It creates an opportunity for teams to test themselves against teams that they may not ordinarily get to play and against different styles of Camogie. This will help to support young players to further develop their skills. Special thanks to Thomas Davis GAA & Camogie club for hosting this as well.””

Linda Keating, Director of Fundraising for the Marie Keating Foundation highlighted the tremendous impact of such a fundraiser.
