The Camogie Association has voted overwhelmingly to adopt the æGo Games’ model in all counties following the Association’s Special Congress held at Croke Park yesterday (Saturday, May 22nd).
All counties will ensure that games at under-12 level and younger will be organised on the basis of the æGo Games’ model which sees teams devised on an eleven-a- side basis with all participants involved in a full game.
The æGo Games’ motion was one of many on a packed bill at Special Congress which was held to formally adopt a draft revision of the Association’s rules.
Following a series of intensive consultations nationwide delegates gathered on Saturday to vote and formally adopt the draft.
Speaking on Special Congress Uachtarßn Cumann Cam¾gaÝochta na nGael Joan O’Flynn:
“”Today was another step forward for camogie and ensuring that we have the correct structures in place for the Association to continue to thrive and develop.””
“”I am delighted that the Camogie Association adopted the æGo Games’ model. It will help to attract young girls to our sport and it is a positive message of how we value participation ahead of competitiveness at this particular age category. Not only that but it will also contribute to further enhancing the skill level of camogie in the long term as children will have the opportunity to concentrate on this aspect of the game at a formative stage.””

ò In 2008 Atlantic Sports Management issued a review of the Camogie Association. One of the recommendations of this report was a review of the Association’s Official Rule Book.
ò A survey in 2008/2009 revealed that the Association’s members found the rule book, in its existing format, difficult to use.
ò A Strategic Review Implementation Group was established to devise draft rules. These were adopted in draft format in May 2010 following an intensive regional consultation process.
