A new underage Camogie club has set up in Ballyvary in county Mayo. This club now joins the current Mayo Camogie clubs of Na Brideoga, Castlebar and Westport. The club formed due to the influence of a number of people. Thanks to Adrian Hession who is the GAA coach in the National schools for getting the girls interested in the game and Emma Mohan who showed the initial interest in getting the club set up. A ‘Come & Try’ it day was held in the club a number of weeks ago to give all girls in the area the chance to try the game of Camogie. Training now takes place every week and Emma Mohan and Rebecca Comer head up the coaching of the team with a number of parents helping also. Parents have attended a number of coaching workshops with regional development officer Caroline Murray so that they are confident in helping to coach the girls each week. Approximately 25 girls have now registered with the club and the interest is growing each week. Training takes place every tuesday evening at 6pm and the girls will take part in a number of Go Games Bliitzes in the next few months organised by Mayo Camogie County Board. Rosa Meehan is the new secretary of the club and a huge thanks to all involved in the hurling club for their support in this venture especially Joe Barrett who can always be counted on for his support.
