Lismore (Waterford) v Piltown (Kilkenny), Croke Park, 1.30pm

Lismore are looking to put back-to-back championships together after Shona Curran led them to glory after a replay against Ballyhale Shamrocks last year. Tríona McGlone was the hat-trick star that day and she remains a significant figure in an attack that includes Aoife Hannon, Gráinne Kenneally and Ruth Geoghegan. With Nicola Morrissey providing the ammunition, they are a major threat offensively.

McGlone was in goal-scoring form in the Munster final win over Sarsfields and also got the vital three-pointer in the 1-14 to 1-12 win over Oranmore/Maree.

The West Waterford girls have shown how good they are in a battle on numerous occasions, not least when winning last year’s All-Ireland. The courage was on display once more when they prevailed by the minimum in the county final against St Anne’s last September and again, when booking their place back at Croke Park, playing 28 minutes with 14 players after the dismissal of Aoife Houlihan.

Piltown will be looking to end a run of defeats for Kilkenny’s representatives in the final and in Katie Power, have the calibre of forward who can help them succeed where Rower-Inistioge and Ballyhale fell short.

The former All-Star was reasonably well marshalled by Clonduff in the All-Ireland Semi-Final though, and it says a lot for Piltown that they came through strongly in the final 10 minutes.

Chloe Blackmore scored two goals from frees to break Clonduff hearts but Power has produced on the biggest stage and notably, scored 3-8 of her team’s 4-18 when Piltown beat St Brigid’s in the county final. Only four points of that tally came from frees.

Kellyann Doyle, Niamh Culleton and Chloe Holden are others who represent danger to Lismore’s aspirations.
