London Camogie Board held their second Underage Development Squad last Saturday 3rd October in Tir Chonaill Gaels in Greenford for girls aged 9-16. It was fantastic to see that participation numbers had increased since the last development squad (despite the cold weather), however so had the willing coaches – thereby ensuring plenty of opportunity for one-to-one coaching!
London Camogie Board’s Children’s Officer Frances O’Neill co-ordinated the session brilliantly, with the more experienced players training in groups while those members new to the game learned the basic skills including dribbling, striking along the ground and from the hand with their individual coaches. All the players then came together at various points during the session to put into practice what they had learned in mini matches, and took delight in trying to score against the adults who stood in as goalkeeper!
London Camogie Board, in partnership with London GAA Community Development Administrators, have put into place these development squads to build up the Underage Camogie participation in
The development squads will also be holding a number of competitive blitzes next season, in order for those players who attend the squads (or would like to attend) to compete against each other for medals and other prizes. Many thanks to the parents who gave up their Saturday morning to drive their daughters to the squad, all of the players had great fun and were delighted to meet other girls of the same age to train with. Many thanks of course also go to Frances and the other volunteers from the clubs.
The next development squad will take place in the 14th of November. The location of the squads will change so as to facilitate those players who may feel Greenford is too far to attend, so keep reading this paper to find out more details!!
