AFTER a massive 18 seasons donning the Black and Amber jersey, Sinead Millea finally called time on her career earlier this year. Even though, the former ace attacker believes Kilkenny will win an All Ireland senior camogie title in the near future, she still maintains she has made the right decision and is enjoying her ‘bit of free time.’

On Sunday, Kilkenny – the National League holders – put their title on the line when they replay Tipperary in their group to see who will meet Wexford in the National League decider in two weeks time. Both the Premier County and the Cats finished the round-robin series tied on top of the table on similar points.

Millea will be a keen observer, and is excited that this team is moving in the right direction.

“”I have attended all the matches so far this year. I thought it would be a bit weird but I am enjoying the free time. I was tentative watching their first match against Dublin but definitely I have made the right decision.

“”Kilkenny are going to win an All Ireland at some stage soon and I had to decide to move on. The future is bright and this relatively young team is in capable hands. Players are still fighting for places and Ann (Downey, manager) is using the league for experimentation.

“”Last year a massive effort went into the league and it was important for Kilkenny to win it because we hadn’t won silverware in a long time. But, this year, they will be looking at the bigger picture. We suffered in the championship in 2008 because we peaked in the spring, this year Kilkenny will be looking for a longer and more sustained run.””

Kilkenny and Tipperary couldn’t be separated a couple of weeks ago in Kilkenny, but Millea believes if they can take scores from out the field they are in with a good chance.

“”Kilkenny have the ability to triumph. The hurling was fantastic the last day, and if they really go for it and show their mettle, they should do it and get to the final.””
