Scotland retain the title

They did that but not before a very tight and exciting game which Scotland only won three minutes into injury time when Katie Drain scored the winnig goal for the visitors to leave it Scotland 2-2 Ireland 2-1.
 
There was very little in this game with sides sporting strong defences and in particular Ireland’s goalkeeper, R¾isÝn Mc Kenna of Monaghan who denied the visitors on numerous occassions. R¾isÝn was well assisted by her fellow county player Isobel Kiernan who workd hard throughtout the game. Scores were always hard to come by on the day and it was the visitors who were ahead at the break, 0-2 to the home side’s 0-0.
 
Irish joint managers, Caroline Murray and Jennifer Steede gave good advice to the Irish squad at the break as the second half saw a much improved performance with goals coming from Margaret Mc Cabe and Emma Mc Aliskey. Time was almost up and it appeared the home side were about to take back the trophy they last won in in 2005 when Scotland’s Katie Drain upset the day for the Irish with the winning goal one minute into injury time.
 
The famous Offaly clan, the Dooleys were delighted to see their sister Hilda take her Shinty medal as she lined out with Scotland as did Down camogie star Catherine Mc Gourty. While the girls were victorious, it was not the same for Catherine’s brother Brendan who played with the mens Irish senior team who also lost to Scotland by a point.
