One of those sides being honoured at the event will be the Derry side who triumphed in Croke Park last September winning the Gala All-Ireland Junior Camogie Championship Final following an epic clash with Clare.
The event will also highlight the achievements of last year’s Gael Linn winning Ulster side. This was the first time that Ulster had won Camogie’s inter-provincial tournament in 40 years, with the members of the 1967 team also being honoured on the night, many of whom were in attendance.
Liz Howard, President of the Camogie Association, believes this is a historic occasion for Camogie. “”This is a historic evening for Cumann Cam¾gaÝochta na nGael, to be a guest of the deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness in Stormont Castle to celebrate the success of Ulster Camogie. It is important to recognise the achievements of the Derry side and the two successful Gael Linn teams and appreciate how much this has contributed to developing the game in Ulster. The fact that we are within the majestic surrounds of Stormont Castle celebrating Camogie shows the huge strides that have been made in the game north and south of the border and the relationships that have been created,”” Howard said at the event
