Girls aged 8 to 14 from the Listowel and Duagh areas arrived to try out the game of camogie and register as members of Kerry’s newest camogie club.

67 new members received coaching from Director of Camogie Mary O’Connor, Munster Camogie Development Coordinator Deirdre Murphy and club coaches David O’Regan, Paul Swaine, Denise Costello and Mary Gardiner.

David, a former Clare U21 player and Wexford native Paul have been doing excellent work to revive and reenergise hurling in the area. They have now also turned their attentions to camogie along with Denise Costello and Mary Gardiner – cousin of Cork Senior star John.  Irene O’Keeffe holder of 5 senior camogie All-Ireland medals with the rebels is also involved in the coaching of the Feale Gaels so the future stars are in good hands!

The club has a young and extremely energetic and hardworking committee who pulled out all the stops to make Saturday’s Fun Day exactly that – great fun!! Balloons, home-made treats and face painting were just some of the attractions to go with the coaching and small sided games that took place on the pitch. Drinks and snacks were also kindly sponsored by Charlie Cantillon.

President Olive Pierse, Chairperson Geraldine Dillon, Secretary Jenny Tarrant, Treasurer Denise Costello, PRO Joanne O’Flynn and committee members Noranne Fealey, Breda Broderick and Amy McMahon have put a huge amount of work into the club since its formation in March and were delighted to have over 50 girls attend the first training session of Feale Gaels Camogie Club last night in Listowel.

New members and helpers are more than welcome as Kerry’s 6th camogie club looks toward a bright future.
