All Ireland Minor C Final, Saturday, May 5th, 2.00pm
Kerry and Down face each other in this year’s All Ireland Minor C Final on Saturday afternoon in Naas and both sides have their eyes fixed firmly on All Ireland glory.
Both teams recorded impressive displays in the preliminary rounds of this year’s championship, before overcoming Westmeath and Laois in their respective semi-finals.
Down and Kerry boast an impressive line-up of talent, testament to the relentless development work which has taken place in each respective county in the last number of years.
Co-incidentally Kerry also create a piece of sporting history as they line out in the first ever camogie final for the county. Despite their tender years, the Kingdom’s camogie players are relishing the challenge immensely; keen to reap the rewards of numerous training sessions.
Kerry will rely upon the experience of centre back and Munster Poc Fada champion, Sara Murphy as well as midfielder and captain Ann-marie Leen. Up front, the Kingdom will look to fire power of Patrice Diggin at centre forward and Alanna Maunsell at full-forward to pull the strings.
Down have racked up huge scores during the championship with senior star Niamh Mallon contributing handsomely to their scoring averages.
The Portaferry club-woman and team captain will be one of the main threats on Saturday afternoon, ably assisted by Bríd McGourty at centre forward while in defence much will depend on Maria Higgins at centre back and Eimear Dynes on the edge of the square.
For the travelling supporters a cracking game of camogie is in store for two of the country’s most impressive under-age sides.
