The degree programmes offered are:
• Bachelor of Science in Creative Computing;
• Bachelor of Science in Computing & Information Systems;
• Bachelor of Science in Management;
• Bachelor of Science in Business;
• Diploma in Management for Graduates.
Speaking at the announcement, Dr. Seán Rowland, President and founder of Hibernia College, said:
“Providing affordable, high quality, undergraduate degrees to individuals across the country who will not have to relocate, and who will be able to continue to work is something that will serve the people of Ireland in today’s challenging times.
Universal access to high quality education is at the core of economic recovery as it is primarily through education that individuals can open up new opportunities for themselves and their families. Hibernia College will give that opportunity to many people at community level to upskill and equip themselves with the tools necessary to enter into a very competitive labour market.
Our students will not need to leave their supportive communities and will not need to rent additional accommodation.”
According to Lori Johnston, Head of Undergraduate Programmes at Hibernia College:
“This is a hugely significant development that will give Irish students access to internationally recognised world class academic programmes. The degrees on offer are in high-demand areas and are ideal for professionals who wish to reskill or upskill but need the flexibility to organise their study around personal and work commitments. Moreover, given the cost of relocating and going to college full time, I imagine they will also appeal to recent school-leavers and their parents.”
Today’s launch was attended by Irish rugby international Tommy Bowe, Dublin Gaelic footballer Bernard Brogan and top Ireland under-18 tennis player Sinéad Lohan. Hibernia College will offer twenty scholarships to sportspeople from Gaelic games (football, hurling and camogie), rugby, soccer and tennis.
Omar Hassanein, CEO of IRUPA commented:
“We the Irish Rugby Union Players Association are delighted to have formed such a strong relationship with one of Ireland’s leading online educational institutions. The scholarship opportunities that are offered to our players via Hibernia College are ideal for their needs, combining world class academic programmes with flexible online learning options. The support that Hibernia College offers us is a vital component within our overall Player Services Programme".
“As the largest primary school teacher provider in the country, we fully recognise the amount of time that teachers, coaches and students put into achieving sporting excellence, and the scholarships we are providing intend to provide the balance and flexibility for those athletes who are also seeking excellence off the field," Dr. Rowland said.
The degree programmes will normally take three years to complete, or one year for the diploma, with an annual tuition fee of €4,980.
Additional note on sports scholarships:
Hibernia College is delighted to announce that it will be making 20 sports scholarships available to high performance sports people across the full range of Irish sports. It will be providing these scholarships to students taking any of the new online degree programmes being introduced today.
Hibernia College welcomed Tommy Bowe, Sinéad Lohan, Bernard Brogan and other sports people to launch the scheme. Each scholarship will be worth up to €9,000 per student. Hibernia College will also be providing a strong support structure for all students on its undergraduate programmes.
Hibernia College believe that the Hibernia model of learning is particularly suitable to high performance sports people who wish to fit in a degree programme into a crowded and demanding lifestyle.
Hibernia College also believes in the concept of giving back to the community. This is one of the ways in which we do so.
