Call for Camogie clubs to get on their bike to the All-Ireland Camogie Finals in September!
 
Irish Sports Council Great Dublin Bike Ride 2015 and All-Ireland Camogie Finals link up
 
As part of the European Week of Sport, The Irish Sports Council, The Camogie Association and Cycling Ireland are delighted to announce a joint initiative to encourage Camogie Clubs to take part in the Great Dublin Bike Ride 2015 as part of the Liberty Insurance Camogie All-Ireland Finals day.
 
The Great Dublin Bike Ride and the 2015 Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Camogie Championship Finals will both take place on Sunday September 13th. Starting in Smithfield, the Great Dublin Bike Ride will travel throughout North County Dublin before finishing back at Smithfield, where cyclists can then continue to Croke Park to enjoy the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Camogie Championship Finals.
 
Chief Executive of the Irish Sports Council, John Treacy, said, “The aim of this joint initiative is to encourage people to celebrate All-Ireland Finals day by participating in a unique event based on physical activity and community engagement. I would encourage everyone, whether you are beginner or advanced cyclist to join us in the inaugural Great Dublin Bike Ride as part of the European Week of Sport".
 
The Great Dublin Bike Ride is open to participants aged 16 and over, and the Camogie Association will be encouraging Camogie Clubs to enter members in the event as part of the celebration of the Liberty Insurance Camogie All-Ireland Finals day. Camogie Clubs will be encouraged to enter participants to undertake a tailored eight week training programme designed by Cycling Ireland in order to prepare them for the day as well as being offered advice and assistance in advance of the event.
 
The Irish Sports Council Great Dublin Bike Ride is being held in conjunction with Cycling Ireland, the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Dublin City Council and Healthy Ireland and forms part of the inaugural European Week of Sport which is a new initiative from the European Commission.
 
Both the 2015 Liberty Insurance Camogie Championship Finals and the Great Dublin Bike Ride 2015 have been designated as flagship events for the European Week of Sport which runs from September 7th to 13th. Further information can be found at www.cyclingireland.ie & www.greatdublinbikeride.ie

 

How to enter:

The Great Dublin Bike Ride is open to participants aged 16 and over, and the Camogie Association are urging Camogie Clubs to enter members in the event as part of the celebration of Camogie All-Ireland Finals day.

A tailored 8 week training programme designed by Cycling Ireland is available to prepare clubs for the cycle and information and support is also available.
 
The Great Dublin Bike Ride can also be used as a sponsored cycle to raise funds for Camogie Clubs. The Camogie Association is urging all Camogie clubs, and clubs in Dublin in particular to take part in this initiative on September 13th.
 
The combined event is offered at a very favourable cost of €25 which includes a ticket to the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Camogie Finals; registration fee for the Great Dublin Bike Ride and the opportunity to benefit from a training course Bike 4 Life for the cycle.
