A new Sport Ireland fund aimed at improving inclusion and access for people with disabilities in sport is making grants of up to €10,000 available for clubs across the Gaelic Games Community.

Improving disability inclusion involves more than providing access to facilities. It also means reducing barriers to participation and ensuring that people with disabilities can enjoy the sporting, social, health and community benefits of being involved in their local club.

The Sport Ireland Dormant Accounts Disability Capital Support Funding is now open for expressions of interest from GAA, Camogie and LGFA clubs in the 26 Counties. Grants of up to €5,000, €7,500 and €10,000 are available in specific application categories.

The fund aims to reduce barriers to sports participation for people with disabilities by supporting the purchase of specialist and adaptive equipment and/or the development of minor accessibility infrastructure within club facilities.

Through this investment, clubs can strengthen existing inclusive programmes or establish new initiatives that create opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in Gaelic games and club activities. Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to, the installation of sensory pods, hoists, ramps, handrails, accessible signage, audio and assistive technology, sports wheelchairs, mobility aids and other inclusive sports equipment.

Clubs applying for funding will be required to demonstrate:

  • A clear need for the project and the barriers it will address.
  • The anticipated impact on people with disabilities and the wider community.
  • Tangible improvements in accessibility and inclusion.
  • Long-term sustainability and legacy beyond the funding period.

Projects must be specifically targeted at engaging people with disabilities and demonstrate how the investment will continue to benefit participants long after the funding has been utilised. Clubs are encouraged to provide clear, detailed information on the proposed project, anticipated outcomes and plans for maintaining the equipment or infrastructure into the future.

This is a competitive application process and will be evaluated against set criteria. The submission of an Expression of Interest does not guarantee a funding award. A club submission requires sign-off by a member of the Club Executive and usage of an official @gaa.ie, @camogie.ie, or @lgfa.ie email address linked to the Club Executive (e.g. Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, PRO).
