Sarah-Anne Fitzgerald (WIT and Laois)
Ashbourne Cup Semi-Final v UL
One of camogie’s true stars, Sarah-Anne has been central to the steady rise of the game in Laois in recent years. Whether at centre-back or midfield, she tends to be a key player for club, county and college.
A natural leader, she has captained Laois to League honours and two All-Ireland finals. And while she didn’t have the armband in 2015, her goal was integral as the midlanders finally got over the line last September, having suffered the agony of defeat in the previous two campaigns. There was no surprise when she received her fifth Soaring Star later in the year.
The Camross woman was also captain when WIT won an historic fifth Ashbourne Cup in a row in 2013. That was her fourth win in the national competition and having missed out last year, is back to play a big part once more.
Keep an eye out for her free-taking prowess from distance. Anything in the opposition half is a potential score, particularly if the elements are favourable.
