Be Happy by Becoming a Volunteer!
 
Happy National Volunteering Week to all our amazing volunteers in Camogie across the country and the Globe!  National Volunteering Week takes place from 15th to 21st May 2017. Did you know volunteering is good for your health? The focus of this year's campaign is to showcase the benefits that volunteering can have on a person's health and wellbeing. Volunteers often say that while people think that volunteers are helping them, it's often them who help the volunteers.
 
The importance of volunteers was highlighted in a new survey of 400 volunteer involving organisations carried out by Volunteer Ireland and the network of Volunteer Centres and Volunteering Information Services. The survey found that 53% of organisations that involve volunteers said they could not survive without them. You can read more of the report here:

Wexford Coaching Workshop with Mary O’Connor & Martin Fogarty
 
Over 60 coaches from Wexford u14 Camogie and Hurling clubs attended a workshop and coaching practical on Wednesday May 10th in Buffer’s Alley GAA club. The workshop was organised by Eoin Morrissey Wexford GAA Games manager and Joe Roache Wexford Camogie Development officer.
 
The practical was highly informative and will be of great assistance to the coaches in their preparation for Feile 2017. Martin Fogarty GAA Hurling Development manager and Mary O Connor, Director of Camogie technical development and participation were the guest presenters on the night.

New York Camogie Update
 
Underage Camogie Blitz
April saw the first underage Camogie Blitz of the year with games at Under 8,10,12,14 and 16 level with teams from New York and Philadelphia. Well done to all involved. Camogie in New York continues to grow with participation numbers increasing over recent years at all age levels which is great to see.
 
 
 
Camogie Workshop
Rockland GAA recently held a Coaching through Games workshop with their U8 & U10 Camogs. This workshop was a follow on from the Coach Education sessions held last week. A fantastic session from Emmett Conlon, Hurling Development Officer New York GAA, which the players really enjoyed and the coaches learned some new games too.
 
 
Liberty Gaels play Gorey CS
A recent visit from Gorey CS Wexford to New York involved a game against Liberty Gaels.  Well done to Liberty Gaels who found this challenge game very productive against Gorey.
 
 
Feile School Visits
 
May 16th was the beginning of the Feile na nGael 2017 school visits.  There were 18 school visited yesterday in Wexford with many more expected to get a visit over the week. Áogan Ó’Fearghail (Uachtaráin CLG), Peter O Neill (Chairperson Leinster Feile Committee), Catherine Neary (Uachtarán Cumann Camógaíochta), Lester Ryan (Leinster Feile Committee) Martin Skelly (Chairperson National Feile), Clare Dowdall (An Cumann Camógaíochta) are among the group out visiting schools and helping built the excitement toward the biggest camogie Feile ever. Schools across Kilkenny are receiving visits today.  Schools visited yesterday included:

Laois Skills Workshop
 
Laois Camogie will host a camogie ‘drills galore’ workshop this Friday May 19th in Clough Ballacolla at 7pm. Laois Camogie development officer Stephen Hoary will tutor the workshop over 2 hours and the cost is €10 per coach.

The workshop will cover a variety of warm up drills involving the ball and progress to skill drills to challenge or assist your players. There will be an opportunity for coaches to engage with each other to swap ideas so each coach will go home will plenty of content to work with. The workshop will cover all age groups. All camogie mentors or aspiring coaches are encouraged to attend. Coaches from outside the county are also welcome to attend. Hurl with Me Programme Pucks Off
 
The Camogie Association National Hurl with Me Programme in conjunction with the National Dairy Council starts this week in 24 clubs around the country.  The programme funds a tutor for 4 weeks to coach parents in the basic skills of the game. Parents have an opportunity to coach their daughters then with some of these key coaching points that will help the long-term development of players. 
 
After the 4 weeks are up it will all culminate in a National Day for all participating clubs on Sunday June 25th at the GAA Games Development Centre in Abbotstown. Good luck to all 24 clubs taking part!
 
 
 
Last Chance to Register Your Club for Hurl Smart Week
 
The Camogie Association’s annually Hurl Smart Week will take place from Monday June 5th – Sunday June 11th.  Run a ‘Hurl Smart Week’ in your club and be in with the chance to win a training session with an Inter County Player.
Just register your club’s interest, run a ‘Hurl Smart Week’, submit a report of events and you could be in with a chance to win! There are also goodie bag for the first 20 clubs that register!
