The Camogie Association welcomes the Government’s announcement of an additional €1 million investment in development funding for hurling and camogie as part of Budget 2027.

Building on the €783,000 announced in Budget 2026, this additional investment will be used to further increase participation across the country.

Hurling and camogie hold UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status, and as custodians of the game, the Camogie Association and GAA will use this additional funding to put more hurleys in hands in every corner of Ireland, through coaching, schools programmes, club development and participation initiatives.

The investment will also provide an opportunity to build on existing development programmes, support coaches, referees and volunteers, and strengthen clubs at the heart of local communities.

Working in partnership with the GAA, the Camogie Association will look to direct resources towards areas where they can have the greatest impact, including developing counties and communities where opportunities to participate are more limited, all with a view of increasing playing numbers and player retention, which will have a long-term impact on the sport.
