Previews – Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship Round 5
Saturday July 22nd
Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship, Group 1
Clare v Galway
This is a crucial weekend of fixtures in Group 1 as Quarter Final spots are up for grabs. A win for Clare this weekend will guarantee them a place in the next round regardless of the result between Kilkenny and Dublin. The Tribeswomen also know what they have to do and a win or draw will be enough to see them through to the knockout stage. The sides’ last met in this year’s league with Galway winning very comfortably however with everything to play for this Saturday, it should prove to be a lot closer.
Referee: Liz Dempsey (Kilkenny)
Venue: Cusack Park, Ennis

Kilkenny v Dublin
Kilkenny have already secured qualification to the knockout stages but however a win will see them top the group and bypass straight to the last four. The Cats will be hoping to win back to back O’Duffy Cups and a win this weekend would be a big step towards this. However they face a Dublin side who have been impressive so far and have an awful lot to play for. A win for the Dubs would see them qualify to the quarter finals but they will also go through regardless of their own result if Galway can beat Clare.
Referee: Owen Elliot (Antrim)
Venue: Tom Ryall Park, Kilkenny
Throw-in: 5.30pm
Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Senior Championship, Group 2
Limerick v Wexford
Group 2 is also all to play for with four teams battling it out this weekend for two spots. Wexford are in the best position of the four following their win against Tipperary last weekend and a win or draw will guarantee them a place in the knockout rounds. Limerick come into this game after an impressive victory against Tipperary in the last round. Limerick need a win and will be hoping Tipp can do them a favour by beating Offaly or they need to beat Offaly’s result by 8 points for them to make it to the Quarter Finals.
Referee: Cathal Egan (Cork)
Venue: Bruff GAA, Limerick
Throw-in: 5.30pm
Offaly v Tipperary
Offaly lost out to Cork in a thrilling contest last weekend but Manager Paddy Kirwan can be very happy with how his players performed. They will be hoping for another impressive display this weekend as a win for them over Tipperary may be good enough to qualify. Offaly will be hoping Wexford can beat Limerick or lose by less than 7. Tipperary will be counting themselves very lucky as even though haven’t picked up a single point yet, they still have a chance at qualification on the final day. Tipp need to win by more than 5 points and hope Wexford can overcome Limerick for them to sneak through.
