Two of the Camogie Associations newly formed Camogie Clubs joined forces to run a combined Mum & Me Camogie Programme over a 6-week period starting on Friday 18th February and finishing on Friday 25th March.
This programme was an attempt at inviting Mums and daughters within the club catchment areas to join in the club activities. This was most definitely achieved by both clubs as there were a total of 20 mums and 26 daughters that took part in the Mum & Me Programme during the 6-week period.
Carnew Emmets of Wicklow who started their Camogie Club in 2010 and Burrin Rangers who established in November 2009 were the 2 Camogie Clubs involved. Not only did the two clubs increase their membership of Volunteer mums but also the number of club players.
The 6 weeks was broken up into a Skill a week. For the first 40 minutes the Mums were at one side of the field or hall learning the skills of camogie and how to coach them, while the daughters were also learning skills and playing fun games.
The final 20 minutes involved the Mums coaching their daughters the new skills that they had learned that night.
Mum & Me Skill Content
Week 1: Grip & Swing Week 2: Dribbling
Week 3: Roll Lift / Jab Lift Week 4: Face Catch
Week 5: Shoulder Clash Week 6: Strike from the Hand
Carlow and Wicklow Local Sports Partnerships funded this particular Programme.
This funding ensured that every Mum received a Mum & Me T-shirt, Hurley, Sliotar, Coaching Booklet and Fridge Magnet so they could practice the skills learned at home with their daughters. The daughters all received Camogie T-shirts.
A sincere word of Thanks to Tracey Bunyan Wicklow LSP and Martha Jane Duggan of Carlow LSP for their constant support throughout this programme.
The tutor for this programme was Valerie Crean, with the help of Carlow Development Officer Tracey Condell. They both did a wonderful job.
I thank everyone involved in this programme especially the two respective clubs in particular Linda Kenny “” Burrin Rangers”” and Deirdre O æFlynn “”Carnew Emmets”” for the continuous hard work in ensuring this programme was a complete success.
