Camogie Association announces National Volunteer of the Year Award

The Camogie Association has announced a new National Volunteer of the Year Award to acknowledge the unstinting dedication and work of volunteers to the growth of the Association nationwide.

The announcement by the Camogie Association coincides with a nationwide celebration of volunteering as today (Friday, October 1st) is officially recognised as National Volunteering Day.  Each county will also select their respective Volunteer of the Year.

This is the first year of the initiative and it is hoped that it will further increase the number of volunteers within the Association who contribute in various capacities from coaching and administration to refereeing the game of camogie.

Speaking about the National Volunteer of the Year Award President of the Camogie Association Joan O’Flynn:

“”Each year, within Camogie, thousands of people give freely of their time to coach, to referee, to umpire, to take up administrative positions and to do many other, often unseen, tasks within their clubs and county and at provincial and national level.

The work our volunteers undertake involves a huge amount of effort and a significant personal and family commitment and time. This is very important to Camogie and something that we value very highly and greatly appreciate. This interest and loyalty of Camogie volunteers means that thousands of people get the opportunity to enjoy the game while also making the communities we live in more vibrant, more fun and better connected.””
