On Saturday April 17th in brilliant sunshine the inaugural Hope Camogie Challenge took place in Blackrock Hurling Club, Cork. The Cork senior team played a team made up of players from Kilkenny, Dublin, Waterford and others. A number of All-Stars had to withdraw at short notice due to other commitments. The game was a very well contested one with some excellent scores on both sides. The final score was Cork; 3-22, All Ireland; 2-14.
Blackrock from Cork and Causeway from Kerry played an U.10 game at half time which ended in a scoreless draw. All the girls who took part received a sliotar signed by the senior players and sponsored by O’Neill’s.
Hope Foundation Manager Madeleine Cummins was pleased with the overall response, stressing that all funds raised will go directly to projects for street and slum children and their families in Calcutta. She is hopeful that this will become an annual event.
She received entries for the “”guess the score”” from all over the country and would like to thank all the clubs who entered.
The winner of the set of jerseys from Azzurri is the Causeway Camogie Club from Kerry who were only a few points off the final score. The hamper on the day was won by Patricia Bennett.
