Summer’s here and it’s time take a look ahead to the first weekend of matches in the 2015 Liberty Insurance Camogie Championships.
Liberty Insurance Senior Camogie Championship Group 1
Limerick v Offaly
Last year’s Intermediate All-Ireland winners Limerick begin championship life at Senior level against Offaly who will be looking to build on last year’s run which saw them fall at the quarter-final stage to the eventual champions Cork.
Limerick were impressive in reaching the National League Semi-Finals this year going unbeaten in the group stage before losing to a strong Cork side in the Semi-Finals. Offaly will be looking for revenge against Limerick whom they narrowly lost to by only 2 points during the National League campaign.
Galway v Cork
This much anticipated match sees a re-run of last month’s National League Final which eventually saw Galway run out winners to claim their first National League crown since 2005. The winners of the last two All-Irelands will both be looking to set down a marker as Cork look to retain their title, whilst Galway look to regain the title they won in 2013.
Both sides topped their respective National League groups in impressive fashion without dropping any points along the way and it will be anyone’s game to win given how close the sides were in the National League Final.
The match will be the curtain raiser to the Leinster Hurling Semi-Final clash between Galway and Laois in O’Connor Park which should ensure a bumper crowd behind the Galway side.
Liberty Insurance Senior Camogie Championship Group 2
Dublin v Kilkenny
Dublin under their new manager Shane O’Brien caused several upsets in the National League campaign and will be looking to build on the promise shown by taking this form into their Championship campaign. For Kilkenny, they will be looking to make up for the heartbreak of last year’s narrow All-Ireland Final loss to Cork and to go one further in 2015.
An impressive Kilkenny performance saw them run out winners when these two sides met in the National League back in March and Dublin will be looking for a much tighter affair in Parnell Park on Saturday and to set down a marker for their Championship campaign.
