What a fantastic day of Hurling and Camogie was enjoyed across the country as part of GAA Heritage Week ‘Have A Go’ initiative, including at the Leitrim Gaels GAA Club.
Over 60 boys and girls took to the field to give Hurling and Camogie a try. After a few hours of excellent coaching from the wonderful Leitrim GAA coaching staff and volunteers, there was plenty of excitement, energy and enthusiasm on display. The future is certainly looking bright for the next generation of Hurling and Camogie players, both at club and county level in Leitrim.
A huge thank you must go to Jack Casey for organising the event, along with everyone who helped make the day such a success. The tremendous coaches and volunteers ensured the event was fun, enjoyable and welcoming, encouraging every child to have a go, regardless of their age, experience or ability.
The event was all about inviting people from communities near and far to come along to the park, pick up a hurl, try something new and experience the enjoyment of our games. It was fantastic to see so many children getting involved and giving Hurling and Camogie a try.
A special thank you also goes to all the parents who took the time to bring their children along. We were particularly delighted to welcome new families who have recently moved back to Ireland and wanted to see what all the talk about the GAA was about and experience for themselves “Where We All Belong.” It was wonderful to hear that both parents and children had such a fabulous experience, and we hope to see many of those new faces involved in a local club very soon.
And now, the important part is to get those children into a club!
For the future of Hurling and Camogie in Leitrim to continue to grow, we need the little legends who were out in the park on the day to become part of that future. The next step is to join a local club, make new friends, learn new skills and continue their Hurling and Camogie journey.
There was tremendous potential and plenty of smiles on show, and we would love to see those young players continue to develop and become the future of Hurling and Camogie in Leitrim.
