AIB marked its proud sponsorship of the Camogie All-Ireland Club Championships by teaming up with recent Kilkenny All-Ireland winner and Thomastown star Shelly Farrell to launch the 2016 Club season. The Kilkenny hero has finished her intercounty season and is now back with her club preparing for the upcoming county final as the battle of #TheToughest continues.

Following an intense summer of highly competitive games, AIB is returning to its roots, where #TheToughest begins – the AIB Camogie All-Ireland Club Championships. As county champions are crowned, the winning clubs from around the country will then prepare for the tough upcoming Provincial rounds. There is no ‘back door’ and much of the competition will be played in challenging conditions over the winter months. But it’s these grueling games that will ultimately see 6 deserving clubs reach the finals in the hope of winning the coveted Junior, Intermediate and Senior Club Championship titles.

Speaking at the launch, the Thomastown and Kilkenny star Farrell said: “It was great to bring back the O’Duffy Cup to Kilkenny at the end of the county season after a 22 year wait, but for me to win an All-Ireland title with my club would be an ultimate accomplishment. I’ve played with Thomastown Camogie club since I was young with my two sisters, Anna and Meighan, and to win an All-Ireland title with family members and lifelong friends would be very special.”

Denis O’Callaghan, Head of AIB Retail Banking, emphasised the importance of AIB’s partnerships with Gaelic Games: “Our sponsorship includes Senior, Intermediate and Junior Championships across Hurling, Football and Camogie and the Senior Football Championship. We are proud to be backing Club and County, and especially pleased to extend our sponsorship of the GAA Club Championships for a 25th consecutive season. The Club Championships is one of the most unique, competitive and toughest competitions to win in sport and we’re proud to be supporting #TheToughest all the way.”
