Allianz Ireland, the proud sponsor of the Camogie Association’s annual Allianz Camán to Croker, helped celebrate the association’s 120th anniversary at this year’s successful Allianz Camán to Croker event on Sunday, 9th June, in Dublin’s Croke Park. The event showcased 64 selected Under-12 teams from 24 counties across the country, allowing 1,354 young players to play on the headquarters’ hallowed turf in a series of blitz matches.

The teams were chosen at random via a draw. This event formed part of a broader Gaelic Games Go Games activity, which has proven successful since its inception. The chance to represent their clubs and community is a huge honour for the participants, which led to a great atmosphere on the day.

Geoff Sparling, Chief Customer Officer of Allianz Ireland, speaking at the event, said that the company’s support of this and other events, promoting children’s continued participation in sport, aligns with the brand’s goals, particularly their Allianz Ireland, as the proud sponsor, celebrates Camán to Croker event in Croke Park with the Camogie Association  awareness campaign. “As the largest insurer of schools in Ireland, covering over 500,000 children, we are focussed on ensuring that children reap the benefits they get from playing sport by continuing to participate as they move through the education system and, in particular, when they move from primary to secondary education, a point at which we know, 1 in 5 kids will drop out of sport. Events such as Camán to Croker provide young players with the chance to play the game they love on the peerless turf of Croke Park, giving them lifelong positive memories and encouraging their continued participation in sport”.

This is a sentiment echoed by Brian Molloy, President of The Camogie Association. “We were delighted with yet another hugely successful Camán to Croker event, which, thanks to the support of Allianz Ireland, allows us to give players from across Ireland the opportunity to play in the headquarters of Gaelic Games in Croke Park. We hope that opportunities like this help ensure that they retain their enthusiasm for Camogie, and that they feel encouraged to keep playing this and other sports as they grow. We all know the benefits of participation in team sports like Camogie and initiatives such as Camán to Croker, which naturally align with Allianz’s #StopTheDrop campaign reduce the number of players who drop out of sport.”
