Prestigious award for Ciara who was presented as Sportswoman of the Year

Armagh Camogie were delighted to learn that one of their young starlets Ciara Donnelly had been shortlisted in the annual prestigious Sports Forum Awards. Ciara represented Camogie alongside nominations from hockey, ladies GAA and soccer and athletics.

Armagh Sports Forum Sports Awards took place on Friday 29th May at Armagh City Hotel.  The Sportswoman of the year was presented to Ciara Donnelly for her versatility over the course of the past twelve months by consistently hitting the high spots in Camogie.

Ciara plays her club camogie with St. Mary’s Camogie Club Grangemore, St. Patrick’s High School Keady and Armagh County U-18 and Senior Teams. Ciara had received an Ulster Camogie College‘s All star Award earlier in the year. She was also crowned Minor Club Player of the Year as well as Minor County Camogie Player of the Year.

Ciara also found time in spite of her heavy study timetable to undertake a referee course with her school and has refeered halftime games at county matches and is now refeering underage games. Dual camogie and ladies GAA player is currently studying for her A Level exams in the next few days. This young lady is an excellent ambassador for underage camogie.

Mr Gerard Houlahan, Head of Recreation and Leisure for Armagh City and District Council and former great Armagh County GAA Player said,

“”Ciara is an outstanding athlete and she has a very prominent future in the life of Gaelic Games for both Camogie and Ladies Gaelic Football, I congratulate her on winning this prestigious award””.

“”I also congratulate the excellent camogie exhibits on display this evening and the work of Armagh Camogie in promoting the game within the Armagh City and District Council area. Colette McSorley was the previous recipient of this pretigous award in 2004.””
