Camogie Association and WGPA launch inaugural Players’ Player of the Year sponsored by Liberty Insurance

Awards to honour Senior, Intermediate and Junior Player of the Year

 

The Camogie Association and the WGPA (Women’s Gaelic Players Association) have joined together to launch the inaugural Camogie Association/WGPA Players’ Player of the Year sponsored by Liberty Insurance.

 

The awards will be presented at the 12^th annual Camogie Association All-Stars Awards sponsored by Liberty Insurance on Saturday, November 7^th in Citywest Hotel, Dublin.

 

The Players’ Player of the Year will honour the outstanding achievement of an individual player in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior championships.

 

Players who are members of an inter-county panel, participating in this year’s Championship will be invited to vote on their player of the year, based on the respective grade they play in. Players cannot vote for a member of their own team.

 

Players are requested to submit their vote online or by e-mail to the WGPA before Monday October 26^th with the shortlist for this year’s awards announced on Wednesday October 28^th and the overall recipients announced on the night of the Awards on November 7^th.

 

Speaking about the announcement Camogie Association President Catherine Neary said:

“I am delighted that the 2015 Camogie season will culminate with the presentation of the All-Stars and the first inaugural Players’ Player of the Year. The Players’ Player Awards will recognise and acknowledge the achievements of a player across each of the adult grades, Senior, Intermediate and Junior and is a testament of the esteem these players are held in by their peers.

 

This award is a very prestigious award for a player and it is a huge honour to be chosen by their peers.

 

We are delighted to collaborate with the WGPA on this joint initiative which recognises on a national scale the immense contribution of our leading players.

 

I also want to thank Liberty Insurance for their continued support as they have been instrumental in raising the profile of the game of Camogie and their association with our Inaugural Players’ Player of the Year award is a further demonstration of their strong commitment to the game.”

 

Speaking about the launch of the awards Chairperson of the WGPA Aoife Lane said:

“We are delighted to be involved in this scheme that sources the opinion of those players who are well placed to judge the outstanding performers of the 2015 championship season.  

 

Camogie is a team game but individuals consistently display excellence in their ability and attitude, which will now be recognised by the wider playing body through our membership who have been engaging and responsive to our work thus far. 

 

This is also a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with the Camogie Association and raise the profile of the leading performers in our game.”
