Leinster Regional Schools

Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd May saw the first Leinster Regional Secondary school blitz take place across 3 GAA Centre of Excellences in the province. This was a development initiative for schools who currently do not compete in Leinster post primary and gave over 350 girls, in 1st-3rd year, the opportunity to play camogie and represent their school. 31 teams competed across the venues representing 26 schools in total. For some this was their first taste of camogie and for others it was an opportunity to follow up on development blitzes ran just last term. This proved a great success with each girl getting to play a minimum of three games and some exciting encounters when it came to deciding games. The top four from each venue were presented with medals and now go on to the Junior Novice Development Finals in Rathleague on May 16th. These include Longford (1) Offaly (1), Westmeath (1), Kilkenny (3), Carlow (1), Louth (2), Meath (2), Wicklow (4). Much thanks must go to the teachers, students, helpers and referees on the days and also to the use of the excellent facilities in each of the Centre of Excellence in Dunganney, Hawkfield and Ferns. We hope this step forward will encourage these schools to continue their growth and participation in the sport – Next stop Rathleague!!!!
