The 5th edition of the Camogie National Development Forum took place last weekend at the National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown. Notably, this marked the first collaboration with the GAA in organizing and hosting this event, signifying a strengthened partnership.

The primary audience for the forum comprised coaches and managers actively engaged with U14 and U15 Academy squads. The day featured four key presentations, addressing crucial aspects of player and team development:

  1. Planning for Success
  2. Practical Pitch Sessions
  3. Individual Feedback to Players
  4. Keynote Speaker

The sessions were conducted by seasoned coaches and academics from both the Gaelic Games Family and other sports. Some notable speakers included:

  • Jason Donoghue: Senior Coach Developer at the Football Association of Ireland Under 15 National Team Coach Education Department.
  • Micky Quigg: Current Derry Minor Camogie Coach and former Head of Games Development in New York.
  • Rob Mulcahy: Head of Performance for Clare GAA, and a PhD candidate at the University of Limerick, researching talent identification within GAA academies.
  • Damien Coleman: Former Provincial Hurling Director and Galway Games Manager with 28 years of experience. Trainer of Coach Developers with the GAA and Coaching Ireland.
  • Cliodhna O’Connor: Project Lead Coach Development in the Talent Pathway GAA, and a former Dublin LGFA player.

The forum proved to be a resounding success, providing valuable insights and knowledge to all coaches in attendance. As we reflect on this positive outcome, there is anticipation and excitement about the continued growth and expansion of this forum in the coming years.
