Camogie Soaring Stars announced

 
Meath and Down dominate this year’s Soaring Stars team with thirteen players receiving awards for their displays throughout the season. The awards will be presented at a black-tie event at City West on Saturday, November 3rd. 
 
Meath who won the All Ireland Premier Junior championship received eight awards with team captain Jane Dolan; player of the match Sinéad Hackett as well as defensive trio Claire Coffey, Fiona O’Neill and Aoife Thompson all amongst the final fifteen.
 
Down take five positions with Niamh Mallon and Sarah Louise Carr named in the full-forward line with Karen Tinnelly, Lisa McCrickard and Catherine McGourty also receiving awards. The remaining positions are taken by Kildare’s Susie O’Carroll and Sarah Anne Fitzgerald of Laois. 
 
The recipients of this year’s Intermediate Soaring Stars have also been announced. Katie McAnenly and Sinéad Cassidy of All Ireland champions Derry and Sarah Noone of finalists Galway collect the accolades.
 
Speaking about today’s announcement President of the Camogie Association Aileen Lawlor said: 
 
“Congratulations to the Soaring Stars of 2012. The Camogie Association are delighted to reward the outstanding contribution of camogie players in the Junior and Intermediate grades. Soaring Star awards are an acknowledgement of the great skill, talent, commitment and tremendous athleticism shown by our players on the field of play. 
 
The Junior and Intermediate All Ireland finals in Croke Park were fantastic showcases for camogie providing great entertainment to all in attendance and to those watching live on RTÉ. 
 
I would like to thank O’Neills for their tremendous dedication and support to the Camogie Association over the last number of years and we are delighted to have them on board as the official partner for this event.”

o Meath are the 2012 All Ireland Premier Junior champions in association with RTÉ Sport and Derry are the 2012 All Ireland Intermediate Champions.
o This is the 9th year of the Camogie All Stars in association with O’Neills.
o This is the third year of the Soaring Star Awards introduced in 2009 and the second year of the Intermediate Awards, introduced in 2010. There are three recipients of the latter category.
