 Clare secure Camogie grounds

Clare Camogie Board has announced that playing fields in Doora have been granted to the Camogie Board following confirmation of a 99 year lease term at last night’s (Monday, Jan 9th) Clare County Council meeting.

The lease fee for the grounds is in the region of €50,000 over the specified time period. Clare Camogie Board will finance the development works necessary at the grounds, including fencing, dressing rooms, car parking and other ancillary facilities.

Speaking about the announcement Clare Chairperson Orla Considine said:
"This is a huge day for Clare Camogie and is the result of over 20 years of work. It is the start of a new era for Clare Camogie. This means that we can now plan for the future and we hope that this will contribute to making Clare a stronghold for camogie and that we will see the return of this work in the future.

The development of the fields at Doora will put Clare to the forefront in relation to facilities and we want the girls and people of the county to be proud of our grounds which we hope will be of use not only to camogie but to Schools, GAA and also to the town of Ennis as a whole through increased flow of people to the county town."

The Clare Camogie Chairperson also paid tribute to all who had worked on the project, particuraly those who made the first represenation to the local authority in 1986. She confirmed that attention will now turn towards planning and fundraising for the development of the field.
