The outgoing selection committee of Lillian Zincant, John Cronin, Mary Moran and Coach Fiona O Driscoll did not seek re-election following last September’s All-Ireland Final.
Pat Murray of Bishopstown was elected at the county convention and he is now joined on the backroom team by former All-Ireland winning captain Denise Cronin and Con Malone the nominee of the county champions Muskerry.
Pat Murray has coached the Cork senior æB’ team to two All-Ireland titles enjoyed wonderful success with his club Bishopstown at under-age level and is a former County Board Secretary.
Con Malone previously served as a senior selector in the 1980’s, and brings vast experience to the position and has guided his club Eire Og to county titles in various grades including senior, and was also a member of the Muskerry selection committee that defeated St Finbarrs in last years county final.
It’s a first venture at this level for Cronin, but having captained Cork to All-Ireland honours in 1995 she is well versed in what is required to succeed at this level, Denise is the holder of 6 All-Ireland senior medals and won County, Munster and All-Ireland club medals with Glen Rovers, she retired from inter-county in 2005 and from club activity a year later.
Many of the present Cork squad including Joanne O’Callaghan Gemma O’Connor, Rachel Moloney and Una O Donoghue were inter county team mates of Cronin’s.
The meeting also approved the appointment of Jim Mc Carthy as trainer, Mc Carthy coached St Nick’s to the under 21 county title in 2003 and also acted in that capacity with the clubs senior football side and also trainer with Glen Rovers senior side.
Jim was a member of Pa Finn’s backroom team in 2002 when Cork defeated Tipperary and denied the Premier county a 4th successive All-Ireland title.
