The 7th Continental Youth Championship Games took place in Eisenhower Park New York from Thursday July the 29th to Sunday August the 1st. The Games are an annual Gaelic Games tournament for US and Canadian players aged under 8-18.
Camogie participation in the Games
This year Camogie was part of the tournament for the first time. Teams took part in under 8, under 10 and under 12 matches over the weekend with the finals played on the Sunday. Twelve Camogie games in total were played.
Joan O’Flynn Uachtarßn of the Camogie Association and Caroline Murray Regional Development Officer attended. Caroline acted as Camogie referee during the tournament. A range of Camogie promotional material was widely distributed and well received.
Four New York Camogie teams participated in the Games from Shannon Gaels, St.Brigid’s, Rockland and New Haven. Philadelphia and San Francisco also participated in the Camogie competitions.
New Haven and St.Brigid’s played in the under 8 final with New Haven winning this final. Rockfield and St.Brigid’s took part in the under 10 final with Rockfield coming out on top.
In the under 12 final, San Francisco beat St. Brigid’s.
A premier u-12 final took place between a New York selection (mainly from St.Brigid’s club) and a North America selection comprising mainly of San Francisco players. North America won this premier final.
