Galway Development Preparation for Feile 2011
 
A number of development initiatives are taking place in Galway in preparation for feile 2011. These include initiatives for under 14 players and coaches/clubs.
 
Players
This weekend sees the 2nd mini feile blitz taking place in the county. 30 under 14 teams will take part in these blitzes in 7 different locations in the county. A similar blitz was held on the 14th May with 29 clubs taking part in 7 different location and each team receiving at least 3 games on the day. The final mini feile blitz day will take place on Saturday June 11th and will be a ground hurling blitz day.
 
 
Coaches
A number of workshops have taken place in the county for coaches of feile teams. Two skill development workshops have taken place with coaches from approximately 20 clubs attending. These workshops included skill development in relation to catching and lifting skills, striking and tackling skills. The coaches also received a talk on nutrition for their under 14 teams. A specialist skills workshop took place on 7th May in Oranmore with top Galway camogie players instructing players and coaches on how to develop skills such as goal keeping, free taking and side line cuts. Susan Earner instructed on goalkeeping while Rebecca Hennelly senior intercounty player and Martina Conroy member of the Killimor club all Ireland winning team and senior intercounty player instructed on their specialities of free taking and side line cuts. Goal keepers and free takers attended from the clubs and were delighted to meet the stars of the game and have the opportunity to ask questions in relation to developing these important skills.
 
Schools
A second level 1st year blitz took place at the end of March with 11 secondary schools taking part in the blitz.
National school visits took place last week from the 16th-20th May with over 135 schools visited in the county. Stars of the game helped with the school visits from hurling, Camogie and Handball. The feile was launched in Lough Rea hotel Loughrea on Thursday the 19th May with addresses from the presidents of GAA, Camogie and Handball along with from the national and local feile committees. Stars of the game from Camogie, hurling and handball formed a panel on the night and under 14 feile participants were given the opportunity to ask any questions of the players that they wished. Camogie representatives on the night were Anne Marie Hayes, Orla Kilkenny and Sinead Cahalan.
 
Feile will take place on Friday 24th, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th June 2011.
