Controversy surrounds the Third Level Division 1 league final as Waterford IT were declared winners as UCD refused to play. The game, which was fixed for Sunday last in Cloneen GAA Club, Clough Co. Kilkenny, attracted a large crowd of supporters. However they left disappointed as no match took place. The UCD manager was not satisfied with the condition of the field and felt it was unplayable and unsafe for his players. Referee Eamon Browne deemed the pitch playable so Waterford IT took to the field but the UCD players did not tog out. The referee then threw in the ball and Waterford IT scored a goal to win the game. Waterford IT will now go down as league winners for 2008 however it is not the way anyone concerned in third level camogie would like to see a competition won.
