The U8 GoGames Camogie Blitz organised by Yvonne Byrne (Regional Development Officer) and Gavin Craig (County Development Officer) was held in the Aura on Saturday the 27th of November. Despite very poor weather conditions four teams did manage to get through the snow and provided some very competitive performances. The newly established McCumhaills U8 Camogie team put on a very good display against a well established St Eunan’s team. The competition was organised in part to promote Camogie within the county. As part of this promotion the U8 camogie players were all presented with a new hurley. In addition to this a group of U12/U14 St. Eunans Camogie girls provided refereeing and coaching support. There are now six juvenile camogie clubs established within the county with more clubs currently developing camogie. New camogies clubs have been established in McCumhaills, Dungloe and the Four Masters.
New coaching courses, go-games blitzes and training courses such as ‘Mum and Me’ are proving very popular. The recent Halloween Camogie Academy with fifty participants from all over the county is a testament to the growing popularity of the sport. This year has seen the development of a strong under 14 county camogie team for 2011.
