Having drawn with Kilkenny in their first Round Robin game of this year’s Leinster Championship, Dublin under 14’s had an impressive 6-9 to 1-5 win over Wexford at Bunclody on Saturday.
Despite the rain that fell for the first ten minutes of this game both teams competed with skill and determination. Dublin having withstood early Wexford pressure settled well into the game. The defence marshalled by full back Claire McDonnell and centre back Aoife Kelly laid the foundations for this great victory. Midfield and forwards created many scoring chances. Dublin’s corner forward Ciara Berkeley had a very rewarding first half scoring 2-3. Full forward Magan O’Reilly added 2 goals. Half time score 4-4 Wexford 0-5

Despite Wexford’s renewed determination in the second half it was Dublin who dominated this half outscoring the Slaneysiders 2-5 to 1-0. Full time score Dublin 6-9 Wexford 1-5.

This win should give these young Dublin players plenty of confidence when they travel to play Kilkenny in the next game of the Round Robin series on Saturday next, 19th April. We wish the team and Management (Paul McDonnell, Bernie O’Flaherty, Martina McGilloway, Colm Berkeley, Tom Humphries) all the best.
