Electric Ireland Higher Education Championships Round-Up

The Electric Ireland Higher Education Championships are well underway with thirteen games taking place over the past week.

 

Ashbourne Cup

The Ashbourne Cup seen four games take place. On Tuesday, January 20th, reigning champions UL had a comprehensive victory when they defeated UCD on a 2-14 to 0-01 score line in Dublin. TUD also found themselves victorious with a 2-14 to 0-13 victory over Mary Immaculate Limerick in Blanchardstown. Next up, on Tuesday, DCU came out on the right side of a high-scoring affair against University of Galway, with the Dublin college coming away 3-14 to 4-10 victors. Finally, there was Friday night lights in Waterford as UCC travelled to the Deise to take on SETU Waterford, with last year’s beaten finalists UCC coming away victorious, with the scores set at 0-04 to 6-20 in favor of the visitors

 

Purcell Cup

The Purcell cup continued this week with two games scheduled to take place. UU Belfast came out victorious over UCD 2 in Dublin on Monday, winning out on a score line of 1-11 to 1-08. Next up was UCC 2, who travelled to Maynooth and came away with a hard fought 3-10 to 1-10 victory.

 

Fr. Meaghair Cup

There were two games down for action this week in the Fr. Meaghair Cup. First up on Tuesday, Trinity College defeated TUS Midlands on a score line of 2-14 to 2-08 in Santry. Then on Thursday, UL 3 welcomed MTU Kerry to campus, with the home side coming away 5-11 to 3-10 victors.

 

Aishling Murphy Cup

There were two games down for decision in the Aishling Murphy Cup this week. First up on Monday was the University of Galway 3, who travelled to Sligo to take on ATU Sligo. Following a tight affair, Galway came away with a 0-09 to 0-07 victory. Then on Tuesday, QUB 2 and DCU 3 faced off in Belfast, with the home side coming away with a 3-06 to 1-06 victory.

 

Uí Mhaolagáin Cup

There were two games taking place this week in the Uí Mhaolagáin Cup. On Tuesday, St. Mary’s defeated TUD 2 on a score line of 5-16 to 4-04 in Blanchardstown. Then on Thursday, Marino institute welcomed TUS Midwest to Dublin, with the college from the Capital winning on a score line of 5-16 to 0-08

 

Maura McCloy Cup

Last, but certainly not least, was the Maura McCloy Cup, where the lone game this week seen UU Magee 2 defeat Marino 2 on a score line of 2-08 to 1-03 in Owenbeg.

 

With two weeks of action now in the books, the competition is really starting to heat up as teams start to dream of a place in the knockout stages. Next week offers up another fantastic week of Camogie, with some of the stars of the future on show.
