The Cork All Star Camogie Camp took place in glorious sunshine in St Finbarrs Hurling and Football Club on Sat 22nd & Sun 23rd May.
Deputy Lord Mayor John Buttimer was there to congratulate the Cork players for taking the time to pass on their skills to the youngsters and to officially open the camp.
In total 70 girls attended the 2 day coaching sessions where they learned the various skills of Camogie from Cork players Jennifer O’Leary, Anna Geary, Carolyn Motherway,Amanda O’Regan, Lillian Zinkant & Denise Cronin.
The President of the GAA Christy Cooney arrived at 1pm to the delight of the youngsters for a Q & A session and they talked to him about what tips they had picked up throughout the day.
Sunday began with more coaching sessions with Aoife Murray passing on her Goalkeeping skills and All Stars Gemma O’Connor, Orla Cotter, Sile Burns and Rena Buckley taking them through Forward Play, Defensive Play, Shooting, Matchplay and many drills performed in Cork Senior Camogie Training.After the break the girls had a chance to practice their new skills with matchplay.
All Star Rachel Moloney gave a fantastic talk on Nutrition, the youngsters took it all in and asked many relevant questions.
Then all the coaches were introduced and a questions and answers session took place. This was the highlight of the weekend as the participants were able to get an insight into life as an inter county camogie player!
The O’Duffy Cup and many All Stars trophies were on show. The Camp concluded with certificates and goody bags given out to each participant by the All Stars and photographs galore were taken. Another special guest Denis Walsh Cork Hurling Manager arrived to pick up his daughter who was attending the camp and duly obliged to stand in for more photos.
