It's Coaching Course Season!
There has been plenty of action around the country as coaching courses and workshops swing into action. Foundation, Level 1 and Level 2 courses are all being delivered countrywide at the minute. These courses continue to benefit our coaches at club and inter county level by improving coaching standards. Check out a sample of the courses running from around the country below.

Dublin Foundation Coaching Course
24 coaches completed the foundation get a grip course on Saturday February 4th in Naomh Olafs GAA Club Dublin. The level of demand in the coaching courses offered this year reflects the high level of quality training involved and the awareness club coaches have to upskill. Thanks to the host club for use of their superb facilities and hospitality provided by club GPO Darren Egan along with tutors Ailish Whitty and Brendan Phelan.
Derry Games Approach to Training and Go Games Workshop
A workshop entitled ‘Game approach to training for u10” took place in Glenullin GAA club in Derry on February 1st. Clare Dowdall tutored on the workshop and showed how to use games based activities to develop players at u10 and u8 level. Thanks to Glenullin u10 camogie squad for demonstrating on the day. 30 coaches attended the workshop with coaches receiving a booklet outlining the session completed and go games playing rule.
Antrim Camogie Fundamentals Workshop
A workshop entitled ‘Fundamental of camogie” took place in Ballycastle GAA club in Antrim on February 2nd. Clare Dowdall tutored on the workshop and showed how to use Fundamentals games based activities, how to set up station for a nursery working with children from 4-8 years old. Thanks to Ballycastle club for providing tea and facilities. 14 coaches attended the workshop with coaches receiving a booklet outlining the session completed and what to coach children at each age group.
Derry Level 1 Coaching Course
21 coaches started their Camán Get hooked Coaching qualification in Derry on Wednesday February1st. Thanks to Slaughtneil for the venues and to tutors Ger Gribben and Lisa McAliskey.
Clare Level One Coaching Course
18 coaches representing 9 clubs in Clare completed the “Get Hooked” Level One Coaching Course in Quin community hall on January 14th/20th and 21st. Tutors on the course were Eileen Gleeson and April Purcell.
New York GAA Hurling & Camogie Development
New York GAA continues their hurling & camogie development through GAA development officer Emmett Conlon. December saw the conclusion of the first ever U13 Hurling/Camogie academy, overall 51 children signed up to the 6 week program that focused on improving children's skills, through small sided games and a high standard of coaching.
Shannon Gaels have had a great indoor Hurling program over the last few weeks. The club have indoor Hurling and Camogie on every Monday with numbers steadily improving this each week. Well done to all club coaches at Shannon Gaels who continue to promote Gaelic Football, Hurling & Camogie.
The Rockland club have been very busy since early January with the U6 and U8 program with over 60 children in attendance. Players have been working on skills and games in a very fun environment with support from the GDO’s. Boys and girls aged 4-8 are working hard every Saturday in Pearl River Middle School. Well done to Mark Comerford, Tony Donnelly or Niall Mc Kenna and all at the Rockland Club.

Cork Foundation Coaching Course
22 coaches representing the clubs of the Imokilly Division in Cork attended the Caman Get a Grip Foundation Level Coaching Course in Dungourney National School on Saturday February 4th. Tutors on the course were Eileen Gleeson and April Purcell.
Wicklow Officer Training Workshop
22 club chairpersons and secretaries attended an officer training workshop in Ballinakill Centre of Excellence Wicklow on Monday February 6th. The workshop is part of a pilot programme by the Camogie Association to help in the design and roll out of officer training as part of the National Development Plan 2016-2019. Thanks to the Wicklow County Executive for hosting along with tutor and chairperson of the National Volunteer & Officer support committee Eilis Kavanagh.
