Wexford’s Ursula Jacob was honoured this afternoon at the ‘Irish Times/Irish Sports Council Women in Sport’ Awards at a gala lunch attended by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
 
The Oulart the Ballagh club woman was instrumental in her side’s victory over arch rivals Galway in this year’s All Ireland final, scoring a crucial second half goal to propel the Model County to back to back All Ireland success.
 
Meanwhile, jockey Nina Carberry collected The Irish Times/Irish Sports Council ‘Sportswoman of the Year’ accolade.
 
The award recognises her exceptional sporting achievements throughout 2011 with the highlight being her flawless performance in the Irish Grand National.
 
She became only the second female jockey to win the race.
 
The 25-year-old was presented with her award by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
 
Others honoured at the awards ceremony included boxer Katie Taylor, golfers Leona and Lisa Maguire, runner Fionnuala Britton and squash player Madeline Perry.
 
Golfer Mary McKenna was also awarded with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her valued contribution to the world of golf.
