Club and Education Support Co-ordinator

The Camogie Association is recruiting for a Full Time Club and Education Support Co-ordinator to join the Association’s staff team. The key purpose of this role is to develop and manage initiatives to support development and best practice in governance, planning, implementation and administration of camogie development and participation within Clubs, Schools and Third Level colleges.

The successful candidate will be part of the Camogie Association’s Development Implementation Team, reporting to the Technical Development and Participation Manager. The Club and Education Support Co-ordinator will be responsible for delivering on a workplan aligned to the Camogie Association’s work, providing support to units, volunteers, and officers, and will assist in implementing the Camogie Association’s National Development Plan for 2020-2023 (https://camogie.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Camogie-Association-National-Development-Plan-2020-23.pdf) and successor plans to lead and drive a participation, growth and development of Camogie.

The Camogie Association

The Camogie Association is the National Governing Body for the sport of Camogie, and it is responsible for promoting and developing the game, and its governance structures across the Camogie community. The Association is part-funded by Sport Ireland.

In 2018, Camogie (along with Hurling) was added to UNESCO’s list of protected cultural activities around the world.

Camogie operates at club, county, provincial and international levels with teams of all ages participating in the sport in recreational and competitive activities. The Association works closely with colleagues in The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and LGFA (Ladies Gaelic Football Association), at all levels of sport, administration and governance.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Programmes and Initiatives Preparation, production and distribution of support materials, and other resources to support learning and development of club officers

Promotion and support to Camogie units for the implementation of the One Club model, as a unitary form of club administration across codes of the Gaelic games’ family

The roll out of national programmes and initiatives under the Camogie Association’s National Development Plan

Project management of the Camogie Club Development Award Programme.

In conjunction with the Education Councils, Coordination of development initiatives for the 2nd and 3rd level units

Ensuring effective management and delivery of Post primary and CCAO fixtures schedule

Research Conducting, keeping up to date and sharing research and information relevant to the area of Club and Education sports and Camogie development
Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the impact of all initiatives, resources and supports provided.

Preparation of reports for Ard Stiurthoir, Ard Chomhairle, annual Congress and as and when required

Engagement & Management Acting as the national liaison with the post primary and third level education Councils and Cuman na mBunscoil

Working with the Commercial and Communications team to promote, engage with and support delivery of objectives agreed with commercial sponsorship partners

Working with colleagues in LGFA and GAA in relation to club and education development initiatives and programmes.

Guidance, Support and Advice Acting as liaison to new clubs embarking on the process of formally establishing under the Camogie Association

Ensuring that club officers can avail of appropriate learning and development opportunities on relevant legal compliance requirements

Supporting club executives to develop and implement effective governance, including succession planning for key officer positions.

Supporting the National Development Implementation committee as servicing officer, and other committees and working groups as required

Health & Safety Ensure that all camogie club and education units are aware of and complete the Health and Safety Requirements, and appropriate documentation when running club and education development events, initiatives and activities.
Communication & Collaboration Acting as a representative upon cross-association/body working groups and committees.)

Work collaboratively with Communications team to profile initiatives and Camogie research publications.

Working collaboratively with other National governing bodies for sport to maximise learning and develop cross organisation collaborative projects

Planning & Budgeting Annual Work planning

Supporting education councils and clubs to develop and deliver annual and multi annual work plans in line with Camogie Association NDP

Budget preparation and management

Support and seek out external sources of funding to support the club development and education area

General Represent Camogie at internal, Gaelic games Family and external events and committees.

Undertake any other duties as required, commensurate with the role, and as directed by the Ard Stiúrthóir

Operate effectively as part of a team.

Ability to be self-motivated, resourceful, work on own initiative in a flexible and co-operative manner.

Person Specification

During the recruitment and selection process, candidates will be expected to demonstrate an appropriate mix of knowledge, experience and skills as described above. For shortlisting purposes, candidate submissions will be expected to demonstrate the degree to which they meet the criteria as set out above.

  • A third level degree in sports, sports development, or other relevant area with at least 2 years’ professional experience of working in a development role in sport, community development, youth work or other relevant area.

And/ Or

5 years professional experience working in a development role in a sports organisation or other relevant area

  • Experience of the unique environment of volunteer sporting National Governing Bodies, and of working with a wide variety of stakeholders including volunteers, committees and sporting colleagues.
  • Experience in implementation of strategic plans and annual action plans
  • Excellent communication and IT skills – verbal, written, reporting and presentations
  • Extensive experience of project management.
  • Be a dynamic self-starter with a proven ability to work independently as well as a constructive team member making positive contributions towards organisational objectives
  • Awareness of current challenges and opportunities within a female sports environment
  • Familiarity with social research methods and with designing or undertaking evaluations commissioned.
  • Have an interest in the sport and a knowledge of the structures and operations of the Camogie Association and Gaelic games, specifically within Camogie activity at Post Primary Schools and Third Levels.
  • Experience in collaborative working and developing new relationships while identifying opportunities and development of new programmes

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Current full clean driving license, insurance and access to own transport
  • The appointment will be subject to Garda/PSNI vetting clearance.

Grade and Salary: commensurate with experience

Pension: The Association will make a matching contribution of between 3% – 7% pension subject to employee contribution on successful completion of probation.

Duration: Permanent (Subject to 6 Month Probation)

Working hours: Full Time – 39 Hour Working week. This role is offered on a 5/7-day contract. This role requires flexibility and will entail out-of-hours working. The responsibilities and accountabilities might differ from those outlined, and other duties as assigned, might be part of the job.

Location – It is anticipated that this role will be based in the Camogie Association Office, Dublin. Alternatives may be considered.

Expenses such as travel, overnight accommodation where required and other allowable expenditure will also be paid.

Referee Development & Education Co-Ordinator

Referee Education Oversee the roll out of the Referee Strategy, launched in 2022.

Responsible for the management of Referee Education Programme in line with the Camogie Association Referee Pathway from Go Games to National Level.

Development and coordination of delivery of National Referee & Referee support panel education including training modules, webinars and associated resources

Ensure annual training and development programme of Referee Developers to deliver sustained high quality referee education and development across all levels of the Association, domestically and internationally

Training, supporting and coordination of the referee advisor panel to support the National fixture   committee in the assessment of National referees.

Development of online training modules and resources

Co-ordination of Fitness, Rules testing etc.

Referee Development – Guidance, Support and Advice Ensure that referees, clubs, county and Provincial Executives are aware of  and supported to comply with all requirements relevant to refereeing.

Support Units and county and Provincial Executives to develop and implement effective recruitment, training and retention of referees with specific attention to increasing the number of active female referees.

Keep informed of new methodologies, technologies and supports relevant to referee recruitment, education, and training.

Programmes and  Initiatives Manage and deliver key referee programmes including the Peter Downey Referee Strategy and the Female Referee Academy Programmes.

Ensure that programmes and initiatives keep pace with changing standards and best practice in referee education, as well as Sport Ireland requirements

Communication & Collaboration Work closely with the National Referee Development Committee & Liaise with relevant Ard Chomhairle committees and units as appropriate.

Work with the LGFA/GAA to maximise opportunities for integrated and aligned referee development

Engage with colleagues in relation to co-ordination of safeguarding certification and inclusion education as part of referee development Initiatives

Collaborate with Sport Ireland, Sport Northern Ireland and other NGBs and international agencies to ensure best practice in refereeing in camogie.

Health & Safety Ensure that all camogie units are aware of and complete the Health and Safety Requirements, and appropriate Documentation when running referee development events.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Monitor and report on active referee data, progression and membership trends across the counties and province.

Preparation of Quarterly and annual progress reports on the Referee Strategy

Conduct research, monitor, and share research and trends in refereeing and officiating across the Irish and international sporting context.

Planning & Budgeting Contribute to the work planning and budgeting process to ensure high standard of education and programme delivery, and value for money.

Supervise and support interns, work placements and occasional contract work as appropriate.

Co-ordination and preparation of grant applications.
