Leinster Club Summer Sevens – Regional Day 2

Saturday 13th July saw the second Regional Day of this year’s Leinster Summer Sevens take place in Killucan GAA Club, Westmeath. This day followed on from the first day held on Sunday 23rd June in the South East Leinster region, where games were held in Tinryland GAA, Co.Carlow. Unfortauley the U21 age grade did not go ahead due to a large number of registered clubs unable to attend on the day. Massive Congratulations to all 21 clubs however, who participated across both days. It was fantastic to see club players getting to opportunity to play in a fun and participation-based initiative.

For u16, we saw 4 teams qualify from this second region to continue onto the U16 Finals Day being held in August. There they will join the 4 teams who qualified on Regional Day 1 (O’Loughlin Gaels, Lisdowney, Rower Inistioge and Conahy Shamrocks)

In deciding who these top 4 were, we saw some cracking games across the group with Setanta of Dublin, Broadford of Kildare, Offaly side Lusmagh Drumcullen and Westmeath natives Lough Lene Gaels. Commiserations to the remaining club Crookedwood, a relatively new and thriving club on their massive efforts throughout the day also. They walked away with a dozen sliotars for 5th. All the games were played with good spirits and highly entertaining for the spectators.

Many thanks to Killucan GAA and Jimmy Greville (Westmeath Development Officer) for the use of their excellent facilities the weekend past – it was very much appreciated and a fantastic venue for the travelling teams. Similarly, thanks also to Tinryland GAA and the help from George Deane at the previous day out.
